God told us in His second commandment that "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them;" Exodus 20:4,5. Does this mean that we must not wear the cross around our neck or hang a cross on our wall? It does if you intend to worship the cross. But we, as Christians do not worship the cross. We worship the Innocent One who died upon the cross for the redemption our souls.

The cross merely serves as a reminder of what God did when "he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16. The cross is a reminder of God's abiding love.
